This site must be rebuilt

I haven’t been feeling the blog lately, but rather than giving it up, I’m restructuring the site.

On August 10th, 2024 I rebuilt zaaane.com from the ground up, this time using Hugo. There are enough benefits to using Hugo over my previous Next.js-based blog it might even be worth writing about.

The home server has been great except for the SSDs

Sometime in August I experienced my first pool degradation. I hadn’t fully committed to the NAS yet, so no data was lost, but it is a reminder that a NAS is not a backup and neither is RAID.

After resilvering a 2TB SSD which took nearly half a day, it was back in operation. Unfortunately only a week later it happened again, and this time, while attempting a fix, another drive in the VDEV failed meaning… the whole pool is gone. I’ve contacted Patriot as they’re both Patriot brand SSDs and we’ll see what happens from there.

I will certainly get my BackBlaze subscription re-instated once I have better drives. I don’t do data loss.
